Evesham Vegs Out

You could do worse than update your family travel insurance and head to Worcestershire at the moment.

How come? It is that time of year again?the time when the county hosts its Asparagus Festival, of course. The Festival lasts from April 23rd to May 31st and is timed to coincide with the start of the English Asparagus season. Festivities take place in Evesham, a market town in the Worcestershire countryside, at the town's Abbey Park, with the revelry including a tour in an appropriately named "Asparabus", with guides on hand to talk to give visitors the lowdown on this much loved vegetable, which, for the festival's organisers at least, is clearly something very special! Visitors will be able to hear all about the different types of asparagus available.

Also gracing the festival will be an asparagus reader?a little akin to a tea leaf reader, but with an obvious difference. Her name is Jemima Packington and she will be on hand to make predictions using Evesham vale asparagus. The festival opens with the Great Asparagus Run, whilst at the conclusion of the festival at the end of May, Evesham hosts the Asparagus Festival Day, where there will be market stalls, activities for all ages and a variety of wines and local ales to try too, not to mention dishes centred around?you guessed it of course?asparagus.

It appears that the festival and its concluding day are as important to the town and the local area as the vegetable itself. The festivities bring much to the local economy through tourism and as a result of the businesses that gather to set up shop during the fest. So, now is the perfect time to organise some last minute travel insurance and head to the charming county of Worcestershire for a few tips (!) as to how to best select and prepare asparagus.
